Unionville boys’ rugby makes state elite eight

Unionville's Bas DeVries celebrates a try earlier this season. The Indians have advanced to the state's final eight in rugby and face State College with a berth in the final four on the line.

With a dominating 41-12 win over Father Judge, the Unionville High School Boys rugby team moved on to the round of eight in the Pennsylvania High School Boys championship tournament.

The Indians (10-1-1) will face State College High School on Sunday, May 13 at Bishop Shanahan High School.  The winner of that matchup will move on to the Final Four championship weekend in Pittsburgh, May 19-20.

Wednesday night, the Indians ran out to an early and dominating lead over Father Judge on trys by Ryan Ford, Bas deVries, and Ethan Fish, grabbing a 24-0 lead by halftime.

Another try by Stephen Lange gave Unionville a 29-0 lead in the early going of the second half. Additional trys by fish and Tim Christopher sealed the win for the Indians.
