Bill Pepitone

The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) announced Bill Pepitone as their new director of safety and security. Pepitone’s appointment to the position was approved at the CCIU Board of Directors Meeting on January 15, and he began the role on January 27, 2025.

“We are proud to welcome Bill Pepitone as our new director of safety and security. His extensive expertise and commitment to creating safe and supportive environments will be invaluable as we enhance our efforts to protect our students, staff, and community,” said Dr. George F. Fiore, CCIU executive director. “Bill will play a key role in developing proactive strategies, fostering strong partnerships, and ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of all we do as an organization.”

With over 36 years of experience in safety and security, Pepitone’s expertise and leadership will be invaluable to the CCIU community. Pepitone comes to CCIU after serving as the safety and security manager at Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU). In this position, he was responsible for the development and instruction of Act 55 certification courses while also preparing and presenting safety training classes. Pepitone oversaw the scheduling and operation of all safety drills for MCIU schools, organized and led all building and district safety and security meetings, led the Emergency Operations and Safety Plans, and served on the MCIU threat assessment team.
Pepitone began his career as a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer in 1989 and shortly after, joined the NYPD’s Brooklyn South Task Force where he served for 13 years. During his time in the task force, he received a Medal of Commendation for his exemplary actions and devotion to police duty. Following his work in the task force, Pepitone became an academy instructor where he helped develop and coordinate physical training regimens and tactics. He also served as a safety service and training coordinator before officially retiring from the New York Police Department in 2009. In 2019, Pepitone joined the New York Police Department Honor Legion.
In the fall of 2016, Pepitone began a career serving in education. He became the chief of public safety at Manor College in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. In this role, he also served as the Title IX and Clery Act Investigator for the college.
“The Intermediate Unit has been part of my family for almost 18 years. My middle daughter was diagnosed with autism at 22 months old and went through Bucks County Intermediate Unit. They did an amazing job and earned our eternal gratitude. After leading the security staff at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, I now have the honor of being part of another outstanding organization in the CCIU, and the opportunity to serve our children and families by keeping them safe,” said Pepitone. “I look forward to building a professional security staff whose main goal is to ensure that our students are in a safe learning environment each day. Providing parents with a high level of confidence in their children’s safety will only enhance our organization’s reputation. I can provide strong leadership and set an example of professionalism and integrity that our staff will follow to better serve the CCIU community.”
