Phoenixville installs solar panels at Borough Hall

Phoenixville Borough Hall

On September 12, 2017, the Borough of Phoenixville became the first community in Pennsylvania to pledge a transition to 100% clean renewable energy by the year 2035. The Borough made great strides toward that goal with the recently completed installation of solar panels on the roof of Borough Hall. The project included a new 27.26kWDC solar panel array, new ballasted racking system, solar modules, inverters, transformer, revenue grade meter, electrical panel, and web-based monitoring.

Borough Council President Jonathan Ewald commented, “The installation of solar panels on the roof of Borough Hall is a proud step forward in Phoenixville’s commitment to sustainability and renewable energy. This project underscores our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint while creating long-term energy savings for our community. By embracing clean energy solutions, we’re ensuring a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.”

Borough Hall marks the second location of solar panels on municipal buildings in the Borough. The Public Works building, located on 2nd Avenue, was the first with installation completed in 2018. A long-time champion of the project, Councilwoman Dana Dugan stated, “Back in 2012 when Council decided to move forward with a new Borough Hall, it was quite literally at my insistence that the new building be solar panel ready. Not only does solar power help protect the environment, but more immediately, the ongoing fiscal benefits this project will provide to the Borough is the realization of an over decade long dream. I am thrilled to see this plan finally come to fruition!”

Councilman Brian Weiss added, “As a Phoenixville Borough Councilman and Chairman of the Borough’s Infrastructure, Transportation Technology, and Sustainability Committee, my colleagues, the staff and I are thrilled to announce the installation of solar panels on Phoenixville Borough Hall. Phoenixville has long been a leader in the municipal pursuit of carbon neutrality, and we remain steadfast in our mission to innovate and inspire other communities to take bold action. This is the latest example, but certainly not the last, of the lengths this community is prepared to go to ensure a brighter and more sustainable future. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my fellow council members and the dedicated Borough staff for their shared vision and tireless efforts toward achieving a carbon-neutral future. Together, we are ensuring that Phoenixville remains at the forefront of innovative and responsible governance.”
