36th annual event feature 90 professionals displaying their work, plus 85 student artists
EAST MARLBOROUGH — The Unionville Art Gala 2011 is celebrating its 36th year, with proceeds all going to support educational programs and projects at Unionville High School. It will be all day Saturday, Nov. 12, 10 am to 7 pm in the newly constructed very modern cafeteria area of Unionville High School. Each year, more than 1000 visitors come to this event.
Featured artist — Jeremy McGirl — the organizers are very proud to have Jeremy as the featured artist this year. He offers a unique vision, fascinating and very contemporary. Jeremy is an oil painter who combines realistically incorporated images onto a wonderfully painted canvas environment. His paintings are beautiful and also interesting – they invite the viewer’s curiosity, to examine the details, and look at the connections between the painted surface and the incorporated imagery. Jeremy is a university Art Teacher, and graduated from the Masters Program at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. His work is on the cover of the program.
A neat feature for 2011: McGirl will be doing charcoal sketches of the Gala visitors all during the show — so not only can folks be exposed to exceptional works of art, those attending might actually become works of art.
There will be:
90 professional artists in the main exhibition, showing and selling original work of art.
85 Unionville High School students exhibiting curricular art in the Student Art Exhibition
40 artworks for sale in the Silent Auction
Terrain at Styers will once again design an extraordinary over-the-top entryway to the Gala — a full donation of their time and materials, this is an inspiring and exciting highlight of the Gala every year.
Nicholas Anthony Salon and Day Spa — will create “Walking Works of Art” where stylists donate many hours creating fantastical re-imaginings of 2 Unionville High School students, who will be decorated and styled from head to toe. This year – there will be a drawing for this popular part of the event, all Unionville High School Students may enter – two will win!
Catherine’s Restaurant of Unionville — will create special “Evening of Art” dinners on Friday night 6pm, and Saturday Night 6pm and 8:30pm, and provide delicious boxed lunches for purchase on the day of the event.
1000 works of local art — there will be an exciting combination of painting, sculpture, clay, metal and glass, as well at photography and jewelry – something for everyone. Also, the art department headed by John Baker, at West Chester University has selected some of their students to show their work. We feel it is important to show the Unionville students the link between where they are now, and what they can become..we show college artists, art school graduates, as well as a great diversity of professional artists.
It is a fun, creative, energetic show, and all the proceeds go to a great cause – education!
