Escaped murderer Danelo Cavalcante continued to elude local, state and federal law enforcement, Monday night, appearing to move from the Pocopson neighborhood between to Parkersville Road and Rt. 926 to the ground of Longwood Gardens, and was captured last night on trail cam images.

Local law enforcement officials held a press conference Tuesday morning to update the situation.

Although officials thought they had Cavalcante boxed into an area just off Route 52 — after multiple sightings of Cavalcante, including Monday night.

But early on Tuesday morning, security at Longwood Gardens notified law enforcement that they had received trail camera footage that was taken on their property which showed an individual appearing to be Cavalcante. That prompted law enforcement to move the search area south and slightly west, toward Longwood Garden’s properties near Rt. 52 and bordered by US 1. This area is largely undeveloped wooded land with some meadow interspersed.

Cavalcanta popped up on the trail cam twice — seeming walking south and then, about an hour later, circling back north. That last sighting was at 9:33 pm Monday night.

The shift in area led to both the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District and the Kennett Consolidated School District to close schools, Tuesday. Residents in the immediate area received reverse 911 calls, warning them of the change in search area.

Cavalcante appears to have acquired more items — a satchel bag and a hoodie, in addition to the backpack he had been seen carrying earlier. Agin, officials noted Cavalcante is 5-0, 120 pounds with light skin and long, dark hair.
