1,469 pets find new homes at BVSPCA adoption event

Some of the adorable pets that were up for adoption this past weekend at the BVSPCA Mega Adoption Event.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) announced today that the weekend’s Mega Adoption Event resulted in 1469 adoptions, breaking the record of all past Mega Adoption Events. The event, held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks, brought in families from across the Greater Philadelphia area who adopted a total of 964 dogs and 505 cats from BVSPCA campuses and multiple partner shelters.

This is BVSPCA’s eleventh Mega Adoption Event in partnership with national non-profit Petco Love and BOBS from Sketchers™, and it had the highest number of adoptions of any of the Mega events so far. Adopted animals ranged from puppies and kittens to seniors and long-time shelter residents. Stand-outs included longest resident dogs from West Chester, New Castle and Georgetown Campuses as well as a blind senior kitty from Texas and partner Currituck County Animal Shelter from North Carolina’s longest resident dog.

“What an amazing two days for pets in need. It has been inspiring to see so many families come out to give these great companions a second chance,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA Chief Executive Officer. “We’re already seeing updates from families sharing their new cat or dog’s first hours at home and those are the stories that remind us just how important this work is.”

“We are tremendously grateful to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, all the participating organizations and especially all the adopters that made this two-day Mega Adoption event so successful,” said Petco Love president Susanne Kogut. “The list of heroes for the animals is long. Now almost 1400 shelter pets will spend this July 4th holiday with their new families for a lifetime of love. All of us at Petco Love celebrate.”

Just announced, The BVSPCA is extending the $35 adopt fees at all BVSPCA adoption locations through July 9th to ensure even more deserving pets find homes. Find a full list of locations at bvspca.org/locations.

The BVSPCA hosts the Mega adoption event, bringing all of the animals from its five adoption locations, with the exception of a few that might find the event venue overwhelming.  In addition, six shelter partners participated in this weekend’s event, including Animal Rescue League of Berks County, ACCT Philly, Crossing Paths Animal Rescue, Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center, Currituck County Animal Shelter, Animal Adoption Center and Montgomery County Animal Shelter.

“We’re grateful to help other shelters tap into the adoption capacity in this region, particularly shelters in areas of the country where there are more homeless pets than adopters,” Lamb said.
