Joe Heffern, award-winning local attorney and East Fallowfield Township Supervisor, is running in Chester County’s May 2023 Primary for Court of Common Pleas Judge.

Joe has over 20 years of experience representing clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to homeless individuals. Heffern received The Legal Intelligencer’s “Unsung Hero” award for his pro bono service as a volunteer lawyer with Philadelphia’s Homeless Advocacy Project. In addition, Super Lawyers Magazine honored Joe as a Pennsylvania Intellectual Property Litigation “Rising Star” five times.

“I am excited to announce that I am running for one of the five open seats on the Court of Common Pleas. I believe that it is important to have a Judge with a broad background of litigation experience. As a former law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and intern with U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, I worked very closely with exceptional judges to analyze complex legal issues on both the appellate and trial court levels. Such experience is essential for a judge because our courts are the last line of defense for protecting our civil liberties.”

Joe practiced law for over a decade with the international law firm, Dechert LLP, in its intellectual property and litigation practice groups. He graduated magna cum laude from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, where he served as an editor on the Temple Law Review. Heffern received a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University. He currently serves as an attorney with Rogers Counsel, where his focus is intellectual property, civil rights, unfair trade practices, and consumer protection matters.

Heffern’s extensive experience includes personal insight into Disabilities Rights Laws: “As the father of a child with special needs, I know first-hand how difficult it is for working families to access critical government services and the legal system in particular.”

Joe is actively engaged in the Chester County community, where he has lived for 18 years with his wife, Heather, and two children. He helped to revitalize East Fallowfield’s Parks & Recreation Committee, which now hosts many successful community events throughout the year. Joe also volunteers with youth as a coach with West Bradford Youth Athletics and with his children’s scout troops.

When asked why he believes that he would be an excellent choice for the Court of Common Pleas, Joe explained: “As a leader in our Chester County community, I possess the integrity, experience and commitment required to ensure that our democracy functions fairly for all. I pledge that I will dedicate every ounce of that integrity, experience and commitment to my work as a Common Pleas Court Judge.”
