Shanahan announces fall musical: The Addams Family

Bishop Shanahan High School’s Fine Arts Department will perform the musical, The Addams Family, A New Musical Comedy. Performances are open to the public and will take place on November 17, 18, and 19 at 7:30 PM and November 19 and 20 at 2:00 PM. The musical has over 200 students participating as cast and crew under the direction of the Fine Arts Department Chairperson Charles Keating and Director David Frantz. Tickets are available online at shanahan.org.

Beginning in 2015, the BSHS student performers and musicians have a tradition of also putting on a modified show for children and adults who have special needs, as well as for their families and caregivers. Under advice from the Theater Development Fund, the lights in the auditorium do not go dark, but are only dimmed so that the guests are always aware of their surroundings. A full orchestra is not used, but rather a piano so the noise level remains low and calm. The cast, crew and audience will be warm, welcoming, and understanding of the special needs of those attending the show. Two special “break rooms” will be made available for any guest who feels the need to take a break from the activity. One of the rooms, the auxiliary gym, will have cushioned mats on the floor for anyone who feels the need to rest. This year, this free performance will take place on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:00 PM. Responses are being accepted at shanahan.org/artsnews.

The Addams Family, A New Musical Comedy, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family–a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before–keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
