School bus drivers can compete to be no. 1 in Chester County

All school bus drivers in Chester County are encouraged to participate in the 41st Annual Chester County Safety Competition. The event will be held on May 14, 2022, at the Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center campus in Downingtown. At this event, Chester County’s school bus drivers demonstrate their knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding the operations of the school bus by completing a written test and then executing a series of 12 different driving events to test their skills in maneuvering the bus. The drivers spend months studying and practicing for this event, hoping to end the day with bragging rights of being the best school bus driver in Chester County.

State and local police officers, district personnel, employees of the contractors represented, friends and family will all help to make the day a complete success. Generally, about 125 contestants will execute the course, complete the test and wait with great anticipation to see how they place. The top seven contestants are eligible to move on to the state competition held in State College in June.

The Chester County Safety Competition enhances the skills of our school bus drivers. If you are a resident of Chester County, the yellow school bus probably has impacted your life in some way. You may have a child, niece, nephew or grandchild that rides the bus, or you may just encounter the bus on your way to or from work. It may be peace of mind as you see a child climb the stairs of the bus in the morning or it may be a comfort to know that the school bus driver has continued training and instruction in advancing their skills and abilities to help to keep our roadways safe. Whatever the reason, check in with your bus driver and encourage them to compete!
