Ellan Dunbar crowned Fair Princess
EAST MARLBOROUGH —Unionville has a new queen.
Becky Jones, a junior at Unionville High School from East Marlborough, has been crowned Queen of the 2011 Unionville Fair, during the annual pageant, held at Unionville Elementary School, Sept. 21.
Jones follows Claire Werkiser, the 2010 queen who went on to become the first Unionville native to be crowned Pennsylvania State Fair Queen.
Ellan Dubar, a Unionville freshman from Pocopson, was crowned Fair Princess, following 2010’s princess, Marcia Manzone.
As usual, the evening was an exciting event — held in the Unionville Elementary School auditorium. Former Unionville Superintendent of Schools Sharon Parker served as the emcee for the evening — by popular demand — keeping the evening going with her mix of fun and wit.
Fair president Jayne Shea opened the evening with a warm greeting and then there was a rousing rendition of the national anthem by a talented Unionville High junior, Cassie Cattie.
Then, the proceedings began in earnest. Ms. Parker introduced each contestant as they walked up the aisle with their escorts. The young ladies in the contest for Fair Queen were Abi Riley and Becky Jones. Princess contestants were: Ellan Dunbar, Amy Gottsegan, Monica Sylvanus and Shannon White.
The queen contestants each gave a speech about what the Unionville Community Fair means to them. Both shared fond memories of preparing fair entries and a warm feeling of belonging to a wonderful community.
The outgoing Princess, Marcia Manzone gave her farewell speech before presenting the new Princess with her crown. Miss Dunbar was crowned the 2011 Unionville Community Fair Princess, while Miss Gottsegan was chosen Miss Congeniality and Princess alternate.
Claire Werkiser, outgoing Unionville Fair Queen and reigning PA State Fair Queen made an emotional speech about the last year as Queen. Her primary words of advice for the new Queen were to stay true to yourself. Miss Jones was crowned Unionville Community Fair Queen 2011 and Miss Riley was awarded the Miss Congeniality title and Queen alternate.
