D-West boys basketball team makes donation to brighten holidays for local families

Members of the Downingtown High School West basketball make wishes come true with bikes and gift cards

The holiday season was a bit more magical for area families, thanks in part to the efforts of the Downingtown West basketball team and booster organization. This year, through a total team effort, the West boys’ basketball team donated $6,000.00 to various families in the Downingtown area, including bikes, gift cards and various other holiday wish list items.

Through the efforts of the related booster club, student-athletes and coaches, we were able to pull together a larger-than-expected amount to donate back to our community.  “As a program, community service and support are a core principle that Downingtown Area School District tries to impart on its student athletes,” stated head coach Stuart Ross. “Any time we can involve our team in any event that goes beyond the court and has a positive impact on others, those are important life lessons we want to impart on our players.”

Downingtown Area School District Director of Athletics Corey Sigle added, “It is important for our student athletes to realize the impact they can have on others. I am so proud of the efforts and generosity shown by the entire Downingtown West boys basketball program.”
