Obituaries: Douglas Charles Brevoort

Douglas Charles Brevoort died at the age of 66 at home in Newark, DE, on March 25, 2020.

He was born October 2, 1953, in Orange, TX to Mary Louise Pierce and Frank LeRoy Brevoort, Jr. Despite suffering brain damage from a car accident at age thirteen, Douglas succeeded academically beyond all expectations. He received a degree in Business from Ohio State University before deciding to follow his passion to teach.

Douglas received his Bachelors in Education from University of Delaware. He taught at Charles F. Patton Middle School for 30 years, first as a math and science teacher, then later focusing on 6th and 7th grade science.

Douglas was known for always having facts about any topic at the ready, especially if it related to his passions of science and teaching. He was always learning something new, from teaching certifications to whatever sparked his interest that day. The overwhelming number of credits that he accumulated resulted in the state of Pennsylvania granting him a Masters in Education. He loved rock climbing and caving in his younger years, a passion which he enjoyed sharing with friends and his children.

Douglas loved to tell stories of all kinds, especially historical accounts, recollections of his parents, and fantastical bedtime stories he told his children. He was proud of his mother’s art. He enjoyed supporting her work and selling her pieces. He even learned some drawing techniques from her, but rarely attempted projects beyond pencil drawings since he did not have the patience for it, as his mother pointed out when he got frustrated.

He is survived by his former wife, Pamela Brevoort, and their three daughters, Kelly Braun (Robert), Nicole Brevoort, and Alexandra Brevoort. He is also survived by his sister Sharon and brother Frank.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 19, 2021 at White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church in Newark, DE. The service will be at 11am, with a reception to follow. Please contact Kelly Braun through Facebook or email brevoort.kelly@gmail.com if you wish to attend the reception.
