Joseph Walter Eby

Joseph Walter Eby, of Springhouse Estates, Ambler Pa. formerly of Roslyn and Horsham

Joe passed away on January 7, 2021 at the age of 89
Born and raised in Downingtown Pa., the son of Joseph A. and Christine Eby
Survived by his wife of 66 yrs., Marjory, son Alan and predeceased by daughter Barbara Ballard. Also survived by son in law, Leonard and granddaughters, Shaunna (James), Lindsay and grandson Christopher as well as in-laws and many nieces and nephews and their children.
He graduated Downingtown HS, class of 1949 and Drexel University with an electrical engineering degree. He served as a Second Lt. in the US Army Corp of Engineers at Ft Richardson, Alaska. While on bivouac there he reluctantly joined the minus 60 degree club.
An Eagle Scout in Downingtown Troop 2, he earned 100 merit badges and was selected to attend the 1947 World Jamboree in France. A Scoutmaster and troop leader for many years with Roslyn Troop 211, he was awarded Woodbadge and Silver Beaver award for service.
He retired a 40-year employee of Honeywell as a project manager for systems applications. A longtime member of Roslyn Presbyterian Church he served for many years as church treasurer, modernizing the ledger books to computers. After retirement, he was a volunteer with Philabundance, a non-profit hunger relief organization.
Growing up during the depression fostered a can do attitude that led to a lifetime of innovative tinkering, do it yourself church and home projects and love of the outdoors. Many a weekend was spent with the scouts on camping, canoeing and hiking trips, epic road trips around the country, with the family in the summer visiting national landmarks and family. A road trip with his wife Marjory back to Alaska 30 years after he left the Army was a trip to remember. His fondness of horrible groaner jokes was well known and never passed up the opportunity to tell one.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Philabundance. On line donations are accepted at
Burial will be private and a memorial service will be planned in the future.
