Sappey, Comitta announce grant for WC Senior Center

State Reps. Christina Sappey and Carolyn Comitta, D-Chester, announced Friday that a $35,000 senior center grant has been approved for West Chester Area Senior Center. The grant comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s 2019-20 Senior Community Center Grants, totaling $2 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Lottery.

“These grants will be used to make improvements and renovations on our community senior center,” Sappey said. “We all deserve to age gracefully and these centers are a vital part of ensuring access to support services for our seniors.”

“I am happy to see our lottery funds being directly reinvested into our seniors,” Comitta said. “Senior centers serve as a valuable resource that directly works to support and empower our older adult community. These renovations and investments allow our senior centers to continue delivering the vital programs and services for all to enjoy.”

Senior centers have a wide variety of offerings that may include nutritious meal programs, educational opportunities, transportation services, financial and insurance counseling, exercise programs and more. Pennsylvania has more than 500 senior community centers and they serve as an access point for older adults in need of service.
