Ryan announces race for Chester County DA

Deb Ryan

Deb Ryan, former Deputy District Attorney at the Chester County District Attorney’s Office and current County Coordinator for the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative at the Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc., has announced that she will seek election for District Attorney in 2019.

“I have spent the past 15 years working as a prosecutor dedicated to fighting for justice on behalf of all victims, survivors, and their families,” Ryan stated. “I want to ensure that all Chester County residents live in the safest and healthiest communities.”

Ryan began her career as an assistant district attorney at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office for approximately 4 years, and worked as a prosecutor at the Chester County District Attorney’s Office starting in 2006. She was promoted to Deputy District Attorney in charge of the Child Abuse Unit and Children’s Advocacy Center in 2013, where she supervised a team of prosecutors and detectives. In 2014, she was awarded the Chester County Prosecutor of the Year award.

She has handled thousands of criminal cases during her career, including homicides, child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, high level drug trafficking, and gun cases—effectively every type of criminal offense. Ryan has successfully prosecuted many of the most egregious offenders in Chester County. Most notably, she prosecuted defendant Warren Yerger, a father who was convicted by jury of more than 150 counts of child abuse for the sexual and physical abuse of his four children for approximately 20 years, earning him the sentence of 339-690 years, the highest sentence in Chester County’s history.

“Chester County is the best place to live, work, and raise a family. We must do more to combat the opioid epidemic and gun violence. We have to devote more resources to protect our children and our environment. I will fight to keep our residents safe with programs aimed at both prevention and education. I will expand treatment courts and broaden our efforts to protect the most vulnerable populations in Chester County. I will work with law enforcement in a respectful and collaborative manner to ensure that we are most effective in protecting our residents,” Ryan said.

Ryan lives in Birmingham Township where she is raising her two teenage children.
