I hope that everyone had a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday break. For my family, it was a time filled with fun and (copious amounts of) food. It is always a little jarring to be thrust back into the reality that is January 2nd. Add some snow, frigid temperatures, and a 5am wake-up call from school to the mix and it’s enough to make us all want to go back to bed until Spring!
Normally, at the start of every month, I do my Sunday Super Six where I identify items that are on my shopping radar. But, it just feels excessive. Many of you still have a tree up, for pete’s sake. (Not in this house. January 1st by 12pm that thing is by the curb. Sayonara Santa.)
So, if no Super Six, how about a list of resolutions?
I was cracking up going back through old articles I have written on this subject. Not surprisingly, they were all embarrassingly redundant and black and white evidence of my failures. Despite yearly proclamations to the contrary, I am still procrastinating, sweating the small stuff, not drinking half of my bodyweight in water, and picking at my fingernails. And that’s just the list I’m willing to disclose to the world!
What’s the solution?
I think, for me, it will be to (attempt) to focus less on what I’m NOT doing well and more on what I am accomplishing. Seems easy enough, but it’s not. We live in a culture that celebrates perfection and criticizes failure. But, it is unrealistic not to experience setbacks in life. Arguably, if you aren’t taking risks (which are ripe with unpredictability) you aren’t growing.
All that being said, I do like to set intentions for the new year. In the spirit of a glass half-full mentality, it’s nice to have goals. As it pertains to Read My Lipgloss, I aspire to write about topics (other than fashion or material things) that are thought provoking and (dare I say it outloud) somewhat inspiring (?!?)
I am not saying that I won’t continue to document my quest for the most flattering brand of jeans or perfect shade of lipstick. I simply want to add more. More meaningful content that can spark a dialogue designed to enrich our daily lives.
I mean, how hard could that be?

Stay warm on this frigid Sunday! Happy Weekend
