STATE CHAMPIONS!

Unionville’s Burkhardt win’s state’s 3,200-meters; Furr wins state tennis title

Glenn Burkhardt, left, won the state title in the 3,200 meters, while Michael Furr won the AAA boys' tennis title.

Unionville High School can boast of two state champions this holiday weekend: Glen Burkhardt won the state title in the 3,200 meter run and Michael Furr posted an impressive, straight-set victory to win the AAA state Tennis title.

Burkhardt, a senior, looked to be the man to beat — a year after former Indians’ star Matt Fischer won the state title in the event — and didn’t disappoint, posting a 9:07.53, winning by just .4 seconds. In the same meet, at Shippensburg State University, Unionville’s Lauren Mills took fifth in the 3,200.

Furr capped Unionville’s dominant boys tennis season with an impressive win over  Kevin Wang of Conestoga, in straight sets,  6-4  6-4 to win the AAA tennis singles title, at the state championships in Hershey. Furr was impressive during the two-day tournament, winning all four of his matches in straight sets.
