WEST CHESTER – On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2016, UPTOWN! Entertainment Alliance will host a Grand Opening Celebration for its new theater. Since the nonprofit organization first found a home for West Chester’s new theater at the National Guard Armory three years ago, it has looked forward to this seminal moment.
Uptown!’s New Year’s Eve Gala, The Celebration of the Century, will showcase the restoration of the historic Armory building at 226 N. High Street. Featuring what has been dubbed the most entertaining party/dance band in the land, New Street HEAT, the party will additionally spotlight some of Uptown!’s future in house programming throughout the building. Guests will be invited to wander from space to space to experience the restoration while enjoying butlered food by John Serock Catering, wine, beer, signature cocktails, midnight champagne, and dessert.
The Celebration of the Century not only marks the theater’s grand opening, but honors the restoration of the historic Armory at the time of its 100-year-old birthday. The circa 1916, 14,000 square foot Armory is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and once housed the National Guard’s Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry and 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, which traces its lineage directly to Benjamin Franklin. First formed in 1747, this unit was designed to protect the Colonies during the French and Indian War. This unit of soldiers has represented the U.S. in nearly every war since and is the most decorated unit of our armed forces.
This opening celebration will only happen once! Join us for a true Celebration of the Century and ring in 2017 in style with Uptown! Tickets available now. For more information, visit the Alliance’s website: uptownwestchester.org
