soccerball41610_m_150_b_rEAST MARLBOROUGH — On Senior Night, the UHS girls’ Soccer team didn’t disappoint while playing a stingy Oxford team.  Fresh off an ankle injury, Jackie Hug provided a much needed lift while giving the assist to the first goal scored by Lyndsay Hastings making the score 1-0 going into the half.

During the second half, Unionville (4-3-1) opened it up with three more goals.  Jackie Hug launched one in from the left side followed quickly by Veronica Hineman scoring again.  The women’s team ended the night strong with a goal by Alexxa Conroy and leaving with a convincing 4-0 victory.  The defense was stealth like and the goalie combination of Katie Borlie (0) & Abby Hug (2) kept a clean slate.

Earlier this week, Unionville played Bishop Shanahan in Downingtown.  Shanahan got on the board early with a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead.  Unionville quickly countered with a goal scored by Veronica Hineman with Erin Garvey providing the assist with a through pass from defense.  The scoring was not done there.  Veronica Hineman provided pressure that led to a rebound goal by Sam Ciccarelli.    Prior to the half, Shanahan forced another corner kick to tie the score 2-2.  Sophia Detweiler dominated the center for Unionville.

Both schools battled through the second half and two OT’s but both defenses prevailed.  After battling for 2.5 hours, Unionville walks away with a strong tie as the game concluded  with a 2-2 score.
