POCOPSON — A former star wrestler at Unionville High School was seriously injured Friday when the motorcycle he was driving struck the rear of another vehicle.

Pennsylvania State Police said that Jesse Picard, 22, a 2007 graduate of Unionville High School, struck the rear of a 2011 Jeep Liberty driven by Kathryn Steckle of Coatesville that was turning left from Lenape-Unionville Road onto Locust Grove road. While neither Steckle or a passenger were injured, State Police report that Picard — who was wearing a helmet — suffered serious head and chest injuries and was transported to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition. State police were able to say which hospital Picard was transported to.

The incident happened a little after 5 p.m. Friday, and local responders were forced to temporarily close roads in the area. Pocopson’s Department of Public Works managed traffic on Locust Grove, while fire police from Longwood Fire Company handled traffic on Unionville-Lenape Road. Locust Grove Road, between Haines Mill and Corrine, had to be closed until 8:30 p.m.  as the state police conducted its investigation.
