The Unionville high school girls’ lacrosse team split a pair of games Friday and Saturday — but now enjoys a 5-2 record in league play with just a handful of games remaining in the regular season.
First on Friday, the team celebrated senior recognition night for six graduating seniors, Christine Astarita, Mally Burton, Hannah Haskell, Victoria Miller, Jill Murray and Brittany Stivale by shutting down Coatesville, 21-2.
The Indians ran out to a half time lead of 12-2 before cruising home with a 21-2 final score.
Annabeth Donovan (one assist), Kristen Newbrough and Meredith Midiri all scored three goals, while Kelly Close and Jill Murray both logged a pair of goals and a pair of assists in the match.
Kris Abens, Victoria Miller and Rachel Hughes all added three goals, while Hannah Haskell and Christine Astarita each found the net once.
Goalie Nikki Bonaduce had nine saves in net for the Indians.
Unionville didn’t fare quite as well against a very tough Harriton team, currently ranked No. 5 by Laxpower.com, dropping a heart-breaking 11-10 decision, Saturday.
The Indians (7-7, 5-2) came back from a three-goal deficit to tie the game with 5:00 to play. But Unionville couldn’t couldn’t hold the edge and lost possession of the ball.
Harriton scored the go ahead goal with 2:00 to play and held possession for the remainder of the game to win, 11-10.
Jill Murray, Annabeth Donovan (one assist) and Becca Fieles all scored a pair of goals for the Indians. Hannah Haskell, Kris Abens, Kelly Close, Victoria Miller all had single goals in the match. Goalie Nikki Bonaduce had 10 saves.
Unionville is now 7-7 overall and 5-2 in league play with four more league games left.
