PENNSBURY – Not only is it arguably one of the top annual events in Chester County, but the 67th annual Chadds For Art Sale & Show helps aid educational enrichment at Chadds Ford Elementary School — and it is back in March, The annual preview cocktail event is on Friday, March 11, with the actual sale event taking place on Saturday, March 12.
And this year event features a new guided tour and the return of the much-loved Artist Salon. This year’s Featured Artist is Helena van Emmerik-Finn; while the official Donating Artist is Mary Styer Holton
The event dates back to 1949 — when Betsy Wyeth, wife of the late and treasured artist Andrew Wyeth, started the Chadds Ford Annual Art Sale & Show in 1949 and continued her involvement in the show while her son Jamie Wyeth (who would grow up to become an internationally beloved artist in his own right) was a student at Chadds Ford Elementary. The annual sale continues to serve as the school’s largest fundraiser, providing funding support for school programs.
An exciting new addition to the Chadds Ford Art Sale & Show this year is “A Guided Tour of the Show” led by local artist (and Times‘ columnist) Lele Galer and Stella Stojanovic Scott from Mala Galleria. The Guided Tour will walk visitors around the show, introducing them to the artists and noting varying styles, mediums and allows the artists to discuss a few points about their inspirations and artwork. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in art and the local art scene. The tour starts Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Salon – Forces of Nature. Its back by popular demand, the Artist Salon will feature a selection of local contemporary artwork. This year, Forces of Nature will be a collection of organic sculptural forms created by women artists out of diverse materials: clay, steel, porcelain, rubber tire, plant pulp! Artists include Jill Beech, Meghan Bergman, Helen Mason, Katee Boyle and Lele Galer. The Salon will be held Friday and Saturday.
Also: there will be Art Tours of Chadds Ford Elementary Collection: . Join guides for free informative tours of the art collection at Chadds Ford Elementary School. The collection includes pieces from artists prominent in the inception and foundation of the Brandywine Tradition and those who further defined the artistic heritage of the area. Learn how the collection and the school interweave into the local history and tradition of art. Saturday, March 12 at noon and 2:00 p.m.
There will also be raffles for a19”x16” signed print of “Helga in the Orchard” by Andrew Wyeth. Also up for raffle is a print of “Gulls Haggling” by Jamie Wyeth and much more.
