From new looks to new tastes, a bit of something for everyone
By Kelly Hockenberry, Columnist, The Times
Normally, I reveal my Super Six on the first Sunday of the month…but, I had to discuss New Year’s resolutions, so, here it is…a week late, but never a dollar short:
- Diet Bet ( https://www.dietbet.com/) OK, OK, I know that I said that losing weight shouldn’t be first and foremost on the new year resolution list…but, I’m a big, fat liar. One too many Christmas cookies prompted me to sign up for this weight loss challenge. I’m a straightup masochist (I’ll admit it) and slapping down $30 to detox myself into losing 4% of my body weight in 4 weeks sounded like a worthwhile punishment for eating chocolate for breakfast. I’m one week in and managing my hunger by complaining to anyone who will listen to me.
- VSA Designs Necklace (available at No.109 Shop in Kennett Square) I unwrapped this beautiful necklace on December 25th and have barely taken it off. Each piece is handcrafted in San Miguel de Allende and the United States. Head designer, Cheryl Finnegan, was inspired by the Virgin of Guadalupe and Mexican folklore. It is a unique statement necklace that is guaranteed to start a conversation. I LOVE mine!
- Paper Source Planner (http://bit.ly/1UDNGjg) Having a clean slate is so much easier with a brand new daily planner, don’t you think? I realize that every smartphone has a million technological ways to record notes and organize a calendar, but, it is therapeutic to write things down with pencil to paper. I want to see my daytoday chaos in black and white.
- PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter (can be purchased at supermarkets or Walmart/Target) This is my new, favorite smoothie ingredient! Powdered peanut butter has MUCH less fat and calories than the regular version. I have been mixing it in with a frozen banana, ice, almond milk, vanilla or chocolate protein powder, and chia seeds. SO delicious and very filling. I also found a great protein bite recipe for breakfast (or a healthy snack) on the go utilizing peanut butter powder here: http://bit.ly/1MICOjW
- Making A Murderer on Netflix By now, I am confident you have heard people talking about this docuseries on Netflix. My husband and I basically ignored our kids for ten hours over the Christmas holiday (parents of the year!) as we sat spellbound by this story. As an attorney, I found it absolutely incredulous. Regardless if you think this man is guilty or innocent, the boatload of reasonable doubt is indisputable. Wild. You have to watch.
- Nike Air Max Tailwind (http://swoo.sh/1VS0fbZ) My boys love sneakers. They got it from me. I am constantly on the search for running shoes that will make my 3 mile jaunt feel effortless (HA!) Several thousand pairs later, I’m still looking. But, these Nikes may be the answer. If nothing else, the sole looks like it will make me an inch taller…which is worth it as far as I’m concerned.
There you have it! My first Sunday Super Six of 2016! Happy Weekend
