Unionville baseball tops Avon Grove, 12-5

Christopher grand-slam in first sparks Indians’ romp

EAST MARLBOROUGH —Unionville High School’s baseball team shook off some recent struggles, exploding early against Avon Grove and cruising to an easy 12-5 win in a Ches-Mont League contest.

Senior Matt Christopher — already signed to attend Washington College — slugged a grand slam in the first inning and the Indians were off and running.

Chris Fulton was the winning pitcher, with bullpen help from  Eli Bleemer and Tyler Fries closed for him.  David Kurey went 4-for-4  while catcher Ryan Hissey scored three runs and Conor Donze slugged a homer. Eric Arruffo played great defense in center field, highlighted by a somersault catch.  Garrett Geiger made the last two putouts with great catches in the outfield.
