MALVERN. – Seven auditioned and seven made the cut. On October 27, seniors Skyler Davis (Chester Springs), Rob DiCicco (Broomall) and Mike Gormley (Malvern); juniors Turner Emery (Phoenixville), Nick Gatti (St. Davids) and R.J. Napoli (Norristown); and sophomore Christian Franck (Kennett Square) traveled to Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill to audition for this year’s All-Catholic Chorus Festival, comprised of the best high school singers from Catholic and private schools throughout the Philadelphia area.
“More than 150 students from 23 high schools were judged by Archdiocese and independent Catholic school choral directors on their preparation, note and rhythmic accuracy, voice quality and musicianship,” says Malvern Prep Choral Director Ed Liga. “Each auditioning student sang a portion of Johan Hayden’s ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘I Will Greatly Rejoice’ by Knut Nystedt.”
“This means that my hard work and effort that went into my auditions paid off,” says Napoli. “I’m glad that everyone from Malvern was selected.”
Franck, who made the All-Catholic Chorus last year as a freshman, is ranked first in his Bass I section this year.
The All-Catholic Chorus Festival Concert will be held Sunday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Monsignor Bonner High School’s auditorium. This year’s guest conductor is Dr. Christopher Kiver from Penn State University. For more information on the concert, please contact Ed Liga at eliga@malvernprep.org
