Bluebirds, new local pro football team, to hold tryouts Nov. 21

d41e0caa-6e54-4ef5-9190-287267625734WEST CHESTER — The West Chester Bluebirds minor league football team will hold open player tryouts on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. until noon at O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium on the campus of Cheyney University in Thornbury.  The university is located at 1837 University Circle, Cheyney, PA, 19139.

All athletes interested in beginning or continuing their football careers are encouraged to try out for the 2016 Bluebirds.  Head coach Ezra Howard and his staff will be evaluating talent and building the team’s depth chart based on speed and agility drills as well as skill position drills.  This is a non-contact tryout, but all players are required to bring their helmet and natural grass cleats.  Kickers and punters will also be evaluated.

Trying out with the Bluebirds will give players an opportunity to be seen by scouts and agents representing professional football teams worldwide.  The tryouts will be filmed and players will have access to their film.  Players may register for tryouts online by visiting the team’s website at www.westchesterbluebirds.com.

Bluebirds’ General Manager Paul Miles said, “Chester County has a deep, untapped talent pool.  For high school guys who didn’t get a chance to play college ball, or college guys who are trying to earn a shot at playing professionally indoors or overseas, this is a great opportunity.  We’re all very excited about the potential this team has to chase an ECFA championship in year one.”

The Bluebirds will begin their inaugural season as members of the East Coast Football Association assigned to the league’s Northern Conference in the Mason-Dixon Division.  The team is preparing for a 12 game schedule, which will conclude with ECFA Bowl IX and the ECFA All-Star Game in Washington, D.C. on June 11th.  For more information, visit www.westchesterbluebirds.com, follow the team on Facebook or Twitter @WCBluebirds.
