WEST CHESTER — The Chester County Commissioners have appointed Michelle Achenbach, PHR, as Director of Human Resources and Performance Management for the County of Chester. She replaces Dr. Karen Florentine.
“In addition to facilitating the hiring and development of a highly effective workforce, our HR department maintains a fiscally responsible health care program, achieved by incorporating an award winning employee wellness program,” said Chester County Commissioners’ Chair Terence Farrell. “I’m confident that Michelle will continue to provide our county departments and staff with quality human resources services.”
Achenbach has 20 years of human resources experience, working with organizations including US Airways, Johnson Matthey and Sunoco Logistics. She joins Chester County from Berwyn-based Ametek, Inc. where she was Director of Human Resources for the company’s Chemical Products Division. Achenbach holds a degree in HR Management from Rosemont College.
“Michelle’s appointment follows the retirement of Karen Florentine, who led the department for ten years,” said Commissioner Kathi Cozzone. “We thank Karen for her years of HR leadership, as well as the staff of Human Resources for continuing to provide excellent services while the search for a new director was conducted.”
Karen Florentine will remain with the County on a part time basis for the coming months, to support Michelle Achenbach.
“Michelle Achenbach brings a strong background of knowledge and experience to the County HR leadership role,”Commissioner Michelle Kichline said. “Karen Florentine’s flexibility, and her agreement to provide a smooth transition for Michelle as she takes on the role of HR Director, will ensure a continuity of service to all of Chester County’s 2500-plus full and part time employees.”
Achenbach was given a warm welcome by the county’s administrative staff.
“We welcome Michelle to the County and look forward to working with her as a part of the team that provides many high quality programs and services to the citizens of Chester County.” Chester County’s Chief Operating Officer, Mark Rupsis said.
