DOWNINGTOWN — The Unionville High School boys soccer team (12-0-1) kept its unbeaten streak alive with a hard earned 1-0 road win against Downingtown East Tuesday night. The Indians spoiled the upset-minded Cougars on their Senior night when Alex “The Great Dane” Anderson blasted a shot from 23 yards out into the upper 90 with under 5 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The Indians, off to one of the best starts in school history, applied pressure throughout the contest. Time and time again Senior forwards Logan Carlow, Jeff Stautberg and Sam Alfonsi served beautiful balls into the box targeting the 6’ 4” Anderson, a transfer student from Denmark. But each and every time the very pesky Cougar keeper, Davis Alliger, managed to swat Anderson’s headers away.
For Downingtown East (6-7-1) it was their 8th 1-0 contest on the season (they are 3-5 in those games). For the Indians it was their 6th “clean sheet” (shutout). The Indians defense has allowed a Ches-Mont league low of 10 goals through their first 13 games.
Next game for the Indians, the top ranked team in the District 1 3A power rankings, will be Senior night on Thursday at 7 pm at Unionville High School, as the Indians take on Coatesville Area High School. The Indians will then host Conestoga High (#2 in the District 3A power rankings) on Saturday October 11th at 2pm.
