UHS boys soccer (9-0-1) wins thriller over Great Valley

Peter Ferraro scored the winning goal in overtime to give undefeated Unionville a thrilling 3-2 win over Great Valley, Wednesday.

EAST MARLBOROUGH — Peter Ferraro’s overtime goal gave Unionville an enormous win over rival Great Valley to remain unbeaten, 3-2, Wednesday.

The Indians (9-0-1) have a dominant season to date, and have emerged as the top team in the Ches Mont League in 2014. Tim Yarosh and Aidan Walsh had the other goals in the game for Unionville, and Henry Shafer had five saves in goal in the win.

The Indians won easily against Oxford, Monday, 9-1.

Earlier, Unionville soccer team emerged from a hard-fought 4-1 victory over the Daniel Boone HS squad on Saturday. With the win, UHS moves to 7-0-1 on the season.

The game featured fast-paced up and down action that saw both sides have numerous scoring opportunities. For UHS, Goalkeeper Henry Shafer turned away 9 shots while Sammy Alfonsi scored twice. Peter Ferraro added a goal to increase his team leading total to 8 goals. Jeff Stautberg also scored on a beautiful put back from the top of the box with 10 minutes remaining in the game which provided the momentum the Indians needed to secure the victory.

On the year, UHS has seen scoring come from 9 different players while holding opponents to under a goal per game.
