State police: Extermination attempt backfires

27-year-old man trying to eradicate rodent, shoots self in leg

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAn attempt to shoot a rat backfired for a Cochranville man, state police from the Embreeville barracks said on Monday, March 31.

Police said Zachary G. Troop, 27,  was accidentally struck in the upper leg by a .22 caliber bullet while attempting to shoot a rat in the 900 block of Marlborough Springs Road in Newlin Township on Thursday, March 20, at 10:30 p.m.

Troop was transported by a friend to Chester County Hospital for treatment, state police said.
