Department of Community Development to host educational workshops
In recognition of Fair Housing Month, the Chester County Department of Community Development is extending an invitation to attend the first of a series of Fair Housing Educational Workshops beginning on Tuesday, April 1.
The presentation at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus from 9 to 11 a.m. will include information on the seven protected classes under the Federal Fair Housing Act (race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status, including recent amendments to include LGBT, gender, and domestic violence). An overview of the Fair Housing Law, prohibited activities and related laws will be covered.
The session is recommended for executive directors, case managers, board representatives, housing and supportive service providers, information/referral agencies, faith-based organizations, emergency and transitional housing providers, housing counselors, clerical support nurses, health care aides, hospital and rehabilitation staff responsible for housing plans, staff from all county departments, and more. The presenter will be Katie McCabe, director of enforcement for the Fair Housing Rights Center of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

A second program will be held from 9 to 11:30 p.m. on April 29; the deadline to register is April 25. It will focus on information on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Proposed Fair Housing Analysis Regulation; the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Department of Justice’s Joint Statement on Design and Construction; Zoning Issues: HUD’s Proposed Fair Housing Analysis Regulation and HOPA requirements; and HUD’s recent postings on First-time homebuyers.
