Detectives said woman was assaulted Thursday night at Stetson Middle School
A longtime custodian at a Chester County middle school faces rape charges, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department said in a news release.
Police said they received a report on Friday, Dec. 13, of a sexual assault that occurred inside the Stetson Middle School in the 1000 block of Wilmington Pike in Westtown Township. The 28-year-old female victim said she was working in the school on Thursday, Dec. 12, when she was attacked by a male employee in a small office within the building at approximately 10 p.m., police said. At the time of the incident, the school was closed and no students were inside, police said, adding that the victim was treated at Chester County Hospital.
As a result of the investigation, Westtown-East Goshen detectives arrested and charged Steven W. Wesley Sr., 49, of West Chester, with rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent sexual assault, and related offenses, police said. Wesley has worked as a custodian for the West Chester Area School District for more than 17 years, police said.
Wesley, who was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William Kraut, was transported to Chester County Prison after failing to post $500,000 cash bail; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17, court records said. Police said they worked with the West Chester Area School District Administration and the Chester County District Attorney’s Office during the investigation.
