College and Career Expo at Lincoln U., Aug. 8

LincolChescoFuturesEXTON — Chester County Futures will host its Annual College and Career Expo at Lincoln University on Thursday, Aug. 8.

Over 220 local students from the program will spend the day meeting college admissions representatives, career presenters and attending workshops.  The day will begin with special remarks from Brian C. Zwaan, President of Penn Liberty Bank and Board Member of Elite Companies Charitable Foundation.  Dr. Darlyne Bailey, Dean and Professor at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College will give the keynote address to the students.

Brian Zwaan feels strongly about the program stating “Penn Liberty Bank is thrilled to be involved with Chester County Futures helping students on their journey to higher education.  We realize that the future success of our communities relies upon the next generation and this program helps to insure that success.”

The theme for this year’s expo is Choose Success. Downingtown native and former Syracuse University football star,Rob Long will tell his inspirational story about his personal battle with brain cancer.  Rob chose to fight through his illness to complete his undergraduate degree and continues to pursue his dream to play for the NFL.

Students will have the opportunity to attend four of seven different seminars and workshops. Topics include: AT&T’s  It Can Wait  pledge for no texting and driving, Penn Liberty Bank’s financial literacy, Longwood Gardens’  programs in horticulture, nutrition education, graphic art, athletic training and choosing the option to traveling abroad in college.  The travel abroad presentation will be given by Chester County Futures alumnae, Maritza Zavala.
