Teachers will have different art projects prepared each day during the free, seven-week program for children at the Garage.

Starting on Monday for seven weeks, the Chester County Art Association is once again offering free summer art camps at The Garage Youth and Community  Center in Kennett Square, courtesy of a local donor and State Farm Insurance.

Aspiring young artists in two age groups can drop in to receive inspiration from the artist-teachers, who come up with new art projects each day. No registration is required, and parents can stay in the lounge or leave during the hour-long sessions.

From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the center will host artists from age 3 and up (3-year-olds must be accompanied by a parent.)  From 11 a.m. to noon, classes will accommodate children 5 and up. The free camp runs through August 10, and participants are welcome to come for a day or several weeks.

Ann Christie, associate director of the Chester County Art Association, said the program generally attracts participants who range from age 3 to early teens. Parents tend to stay with the younger children, she said, adding that the teachers, all of whom have arts degrees, are skilled with dealing with a wide range of interests and abilities.

The Garage is located at 115 South Union Street in downtown Kennett Square. For more information, call the Art Association at 610-696-5600 or The Garage at 610-444-6464.
