Extra-inning triumph gets young Indians to .500 mark
EAST MARLBORIOUGH — Elise Rocconi lead off the ninth with a double and then managed to score on a wild pitch to win the game, leading Unionville to a tense, extra-inning win over Sun Valley, 3-2, Thursday.
The win — the third in three days — moves the Indians (7-8 Ches Mont, 8-8 overall) to the .500 mark for the first time this season, putting the very young team, which features just one senior starter, solidly in post-season contention.
Sophomore Austin Langerhans had an amazing day on the mound, pitching all a complete game — nine innings — and only giving up just three hits while striking out eight. Mandy Hammond, Madi Ross, Kate Mims, and Meredith Kurey all had two hits.
The Indians enjoys a few well-earned days off and will travel to West Chester Henderson on Monday.
