UHS’ Hornibrook dominates at district swim meet

Unionville High School senior Mackenzie Hornibrook turned in a dominating performance at the PIAA District 1 swim meet, this week.

PHILADELPHIA — Mackenzie Hornibrook, a senior at Unionville High School, turned in a dominating performance at the PIAA District 1 Championship Swim Meet on Thursday 2/29-Friday 3/1 at LaSalle University, winning the district champion title.

Hornibrook, who is Captain of the Indians’ swim team, took first place in the 100 Freestyle event with time of 51.01. That impressive time beat her own UHS school record of 51.78 from last year and qualified for the PIAA State Championship at Bucknell University on 3/15-3/16.

Hornibrook also earned the “Bess Halpin Memorial Award” for the fastest 100 freestyle performance of the meet. In the 100 Butterfly event, she placed 2nd overall and broke the District 1 record from 2004 with an “All-American” time of 54.90. She anchored the 400 Free Relay with teammates Kate Evanko, Erin Polries and Laura Barthold which took third place with a new UHS record time of 3:33.05 earning an automatic spot for the relay team in the State Championships.
