Police said man rented it at Phila. airport and never returned it
A Delaware man is behind bars after authorities apprehended him Saturday in a stolen car on Rt. 202, police said Monday.
Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police said Officer Peter Keegan was on routine patrol at 4:45 p.m. in a vehicle equipped with a license-plate reader when the device sounded an alert: A stolen vehicle was traveling in the opposite direction on Rt. 202. Keegan learned through the computer that the stolen vehicle was a blue Ford Fusion with Illinois registration L254123, information he relayed to officers south of his location, said Westtown-East Goshen Police Lt. William Cahill.
The Ford was stopped without incident by officers from Westtown-East Goshen, Birmingham Township, and state police from the Media barracks, with assistance from the State Police Aviation Unit, Cahill said. The driver of the Ford, Salvatore Giacona, 41, who was accompanied by an adult female and two children, was charged with receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of an automobile, and driving with a suspended license, court records said.
Cahill said police discovered that Giacona had rented the Ford Fusion from Enterprise Rental at its Philadelphia Airport location in August and never returned the vehicle; Philadelphia Police and Enterprise were notified of the arrest, he said. Giacona was sent to Chester County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $5,000 bail. His passengers were able to obtain a ride back to Delaware, Cahill said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday before Magisterial District Judge William D. Kraut.
