Red Cross to combine holiday tradition, military support

Free card-signing for troops offered Thursday night at Longwood Gardens

Visitors to Longwood Gardens on Thursday night will have a chance to sign holiday cards for those in the military, courtesy of the Red Cross.

For the sixth year in a row, the American Red Cross is sponsoring holiday mail for the nation’s military, and its regional chapter is making it easy for Longwood Gardens visitors to participate.

On Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. the public is invited to a free card-signing at Longwood, where an elaborate Christmas lights display traditionally attracts large crowds.

The event is being hosted by the Chester County Leadership Council of the American Red Cross Southeastern PA. The deadline for submitting cards is Dec. 7 so those who haven’t gotten to the post office will have a last-minute opportunity to express support to  the nation’s military, veterans and their families.

Founded in 1916 as a chartered unit of the American National Red Cross, the Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) Chapter of the American Red Cross is part of the largest and most diverse service organization in the United States, serving nearly four million people in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties.
