EAST MARLBOROUGH — Upland Country Day School, a coeducational, independent day school in Kennett Square, is hosting an
Open House for students, families and community members on Wednesday, Oct. 24th from 9 a.m. to noon.
The open house is an opportunity for families and members of the community to visit the 23-acre campus, observe teachers and students in action on a typical day, and get an overview of Upland’s culture, curriculum and unique programs. Upland serves students in Pre-K through 9th grade. The school is known for both challenging academics — students consistently place in the top 15 percentile nationally in scholastic testing — and full participation programming, where all students participate in team athletics, visual and dramatic arts and character building opportunities daily. Upland also has a 35-year tradition of international exchange with Finland providing students with international experience on campus and opportunities to travel at the middle school level.
“As the economy impacts many schools and they have had to cut back on competitive sports, arts and other programming, Upland continues to expand and emphasize these programs as part of educating the whole child,” comments David Suter, Upland Head of School. “Through full participation and the experience it brings, students discover strengths and interests from trying new things, both in and out of the classroom. It gives them confidence and a readiness to accept new challenges in life.”
Upland Country Day School has a rigorous academic program, with opportunities for students to develop their intellectual, artistic, and
physical abilities through competitive athletics, visual and dramatic art, music, 1;1 iPad programs, science and Spanish beginning in Kindergarten, student government and multiple on-going community service projects. Upland has its own ice rink and skating instruction is part of the PE program. Small class sizes and 5:1 student/teacher ratio provide students opportunities for individual instruction and enrichment. Test scores demonstrate a focus on academic excellence with results consistently well above national as well as local public and private school averages.
“Parents have a lot of tough choices to make, perhaps the most important of which involves the education of their child,” Suter said. “Our area has some very good schools, and we hope that through this Open House to make parents aware of a strong local private school and the benefits it offers students that extend well past their years here.”
Founded in 1948, Upland Country Day School is an independent, coeducational Pre K – 9th grade day school located at 420 West Street Road in Kennett Square. Upland serves families and receives busing from nine area school districts. Upland is known for its challenging
academic curriculum and small class sizes. The school’s mission is to inspire a lifetime of learning in students by providing stimulating
education in a supportive environment. Students are encouraged to strive for personal levels of excellence and to develop fully across a broad range of academic, physical, creative and character building endeavors.
