The Kennett Kings made up of Kennett, and Unionville 15/16 year old players, secured the District 28 Championship with a 9 to 1 victory against West Side paced by the outstanding pitching of Joe Zirolli and closer Tyler Hoffman Reardon.
For the week, the Kings won 4 games against Caln, West Side, West Bradford and having to play West Side twice. The Kings powered through teams by a combined score of 49 to 8. From an offensive perspective this has been one of the deepest teams with strong hitters throughout the lineup including Alex Pechin, Drew Jarmuz, Joe Zirolli, Andrew Nichols, David Villifane, Eric Duerr, Simon Galer, and Dan Garver. At the same time, the Kings have had great starting pitching with Joe Zirolli, Alex Pechin, complemented by Kevin Looby, closing out games. Lastly, this team has been very strong defensively up the middle bolstered by Chris Tucker/C, Eric Duerr/C, John Karas/SS, Jake Freeman/2nd base and Simon Galer in center field.
Moreover, a great deal of confidence of this team comes from the fact that they were all part of the successful Kennett Big League team this summer coached by Mike Robinson posting a 23 and 2 record in which they played within a league made up of many older H.S. Juniors, Seniors and College players.
Looking ahead, the Kings start Sectional Play against Greencastle from Pennsylvania District 14 in a best of 3 series starting with a game Friday night (6:30 PM) at NVF field in Kennett, followed by games Saturday at 1pm and if necessary Sunday at 1pm, with the winner moving on to the State Tournament in Emporium, P.A..
