Letter: Let independents vote in primaries
To The Editor,
The legislature should amend Pennsylvania law to permit all registered voters the ability to vote in our Primary elections. This way individuals who are registered as a member of any party would have an early say in who will represent them and their needs in government. Changing current law may be the way to free ourselves from the iron fisted partisan politics that have caused...
Newlin supervisor responds to horse ordinance coverage
Editors Note: We typically do not run letters responding to the stories written in other publications, in this case, The Kennett Paper. However, as we were unable to cover last week’s Newlin Board of Supervisors meeting — we have limited resources (and yes, we’re seeking to hire additional staff) and felt that covering the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District Board of Education meeting...
Letter: Thanks for support of Freedom Fest
To the Editor:
This year’s Freedom Fest was one of the most exciting and successful ever, thanks to the many individuals and agencies that contributed to both planning and running the event at Nottingham County Park. Through the hard work and generosity of many, thousands of people enjoyed an evening of family fun in celebration of our Nation’s birth.
In addition to the efforts of several dozen...
Letter: GOP protests costing tax dollars
To The Editor,
As we move into this election season, it’s interesting to me to see what fear and panic produces as Gov. Tom Corbett, sinks to 20% below his opponent, Tom Wolf in the polls. Could it be that the polls are right? Could it be that the Republican legislators from Chester County, all of whom supported Governor Corbett’s failed policies, are worried about losing as well?
Traditionally,...
Letter: DA’s back pre-K to fight crime
To The Editor,
The passage of the 2014-15 state budget included an important funding increase for future crime prevention – a $10 million increase for PA Pre-K Counts.
What does Pre-K have to do with crime prevention?
Considering that approximately 70 percent of our nation’s state prison population failed to receive a high school diploma, education is a pivotal factor between incarceration and...
Letter: GOP pension claims ring hollow
To The Editor,
The claim made in the recent OP/ED that Southeast Pennsylvania’s GOP backed Corbett’s pension revamp rings hollow. What the GOP fears is that Corbett is likely to be replaced by Tom Wolfe in the next election and some of them will go down with Corbett.
Frankly, it will serve them right. If the GOP had truly supported revising the pension system for the teachers union...
Letter: Gifts to legislators must stop
To The Editor:
Giving gifts to legislators is big business in our Commonwealth. Pennsylvanians were rightfully outraged when they learned legislators were accepting cash gifts, and it was all done legally.
Under current Pennsylvania law, any gifts of any value can be given to legislators. Legislators only need to disclose gifts valued at over $250 or transportation and lodging valued at over $650....
Letter: Thanks to Tri-M for fireworks
To The Editor,
Many thanks to the Tri-M Corp, for sponsoring the beautiful Fireworks display on Saturday night, 6/28/14.
It’s been years since Willowdale has seen such a wonderful display. We live in Willowdale Crossing, and were able to enjoy them. We realized that Tri-M was having an employee and family, function at the Yellow House, and were so happily surprised to watch such a fun event.
Thanks...
Letter: Denton Hollow safety concerns real
To The Editor,
The concerns raised by residents regarding the traffic situation on Denton Hollow Road resulting from the detour of Route 52 have been misconstrued by some as whining and crying by a few people who simply don’t want to see more traffic on their road. That’s not it – we are concerned township residents who see a recurring dangerous situation facing everyone using Denton Hollow. ...
